Greetings from Ms. Iovino! 9/08/2023
Greetings TCCA Family! My name is Ms. Iovino and I am delighted to be the new Elementary
Art Teacher here at TCCA. I am a certified teacher with twenty years of experience and have
taught a diverse range of grades and subjects over the years. My Bachelor of Arts degree from
San Francisco State University comprises a Major in Liberal Studies and a Minor in Art
Studio. Additionally, I possess a dual credential from Saint Mary's College in Orinda,
California, specializing in Multiple Subjects and Special Education. Being an inclusive
educator, I firmly believe in valuing all my students, regardless of their intellectual abilities or
grade level.
In collaboration with Mrs. Sanderson, we have developed an exciting and comprehensive Art
curriculum that aligns with the prestigious and Notable Hillsdale Curriculum. This semester,
we will be exploring the Elements of Art, which encompasses Color theory, Shapes, Lines,
Forms, Value, Textures, and Space. Our young scholars will learn about primary and
secondary colors while our older students will delve into architectural design with abstract
shapes. Through various projects, our students will learn to sketch using dif erent values,
spaces, designs, and textures. I encourage parents to appreciate their children's hard work and
showcase their artwork at home. Our objective is to motivate and recognize our scholars'
artistic talents.
As an Art teacher, it is my responsibility to ensure that all my scholars come to class prepared,
focused, ready to learn, and have fun! Although Art is a special class, I want all scholars to
take their creative abilities seriously. I maintain high expectations and firmly believe in their
artistic capabilities. Thus, I expect scholars to put forth their best effort, respect the art
classroom and materials, and have a growth mindset! While I will make necessary
accommodations for students who need them, I believe that all students can succeed in art!
Parents are encouraged to participate in any art clubs offered on campus or engage their
children in fun and engaging art activities at home.
Parents can contact me via email at [email protected] for any questions,
concerns, or volunteering opportunities at TCCA. If any parents or guardians are interested in
adopting my classroom or contributing to our Amazon Wish list, please send me an email. I
want to ensure that no contributions are a financial burden or hardship for any
parents/guardians who participate.
Our goal is to encourage all our students to tap into their creative minds and flourish. We
teach not only the principles of Art but also the principles of becoming great citizens and
having respect for their artwork as well as their peers. We encourage collaboration among our
students and aim for their Art Specials to be an engaging and meaningful part of their
curriculum.
Sincerely,
Ms. Iovino
Art Update! 9/05/2023
Dear Parents of TCCA Art Scholars,
It has been a nice start of the school year with your little artists! We began the year going over and practicing the rules and expectations of the Art classroom as well as learning new routines and procedures. We are working hard to come together to form a calm and safe environment for Scholars to be creative. It is important for our Scholars to know and practice all of these things as it impacts their grade in Art. For more information on our expectations and grading in the Art room, please click this link for the Syllabus.
In the process, we have been reviewing the elements of art with a lot of focus on color. In August, all of our grades completed a Color Wheel activity or project. Knowing what a Color Wheel is and how to use it as a tool in art is a great foundation to making endless pieces of art! Ask your Scholars if it matters where the colors go on on a Color Wheel, if they know what the primary colors are and how we make secondary colors, and ask them if they can use a Color Wheel to show you.
In September, our youngest Scholars will still be exploring colors. Kindergarten will be learning to master their primary color knowledge and begin building their secondary color knowledge through drawing, Model Magic, and paper sculptures.
First through Fifth grade will be spending a little time reviewing their primary and secondary colors and then moving on to warm and cool colors. Before the month ends, we should be able to begin our first projects of the year. In all projects, we will also be discussing the elements of art line and shape.
Thank you to the families who have purchased something off of our Amazon Wish List! You are helping us to make memories to last a lifetime!
