Music Update 10/06/2023
Kindergarten:
We have been learning about drums and guitar in our kindergarten classes. We have been increasing our musical vocabulary and understanding of basic concepts.
First Grade:
We have been learning about percussion in our 1st grade classes. This week we will explore different percussion instruments and focus on the difference between pitched and unpitched percussion. Our scholars are excited at the prospect of playing some percussion instruments themselves!
Second Grade:
Second grade is going to have a blast learning about the string family of instruments and how they are integrated into the orchestra.
Third-Fifth Grade
Our older scholars are learning basic music theory concepts and reinforcing musical vocabulary. We are learning to differentiate between beat and rhythm, tempo, and the purpose of metronomes.
Music Update 8/25/2023
Elementary music is off to a great start this year. We are settling into our routines and procedures more and more each week. Each day we focus on singing, learning, and listening. I am proud of the courage and enthusiasm our scholars bring to each and every music class.
Some songs we are learning:
Kinder- “The Wise Man Built His House upon the Rock”
1st- "Yankee Doodle"
2nd- “This Land is Your Land, This Land is My Land”
3rd- “My Bonnie Lies Over the Ocean”
4th- “Blow the Man Down”
5th- “Red River Valley”
*Announcement* -Our scholars are so excited to be singing the national anthem when we celebrate Constitution Day. We have been practicing for a couple weeks now. We can't wait to see them in action!
Thank you!

Get to know your music teachers!
Lower School:
Ms. Mayefsky studied vocal performance at The Masters University in California. She has worked in education for most of her career and has also had the privilege to teach private piano and vocal instruction. She has two children, her son is 7 years old and loves building Lego sets, and her 6 years old daughter gets lost playing Barbies. For fun, Ms. Mayefsky enjoys spending time with her kids and loved ones, going to the beach, painting and singing.
Mr. Joiner enjoys teaching because he loves the watershed moments in the learning process when a child grasps key concepts. During college he began tutoring his peers and enjoyed math and music electives. After successfully completing
a Bachelor’s Degree in Organizational Management at Indian River State College, Mr. Joiner chose to
professionally teach Cello. This led to the realization that teaching had become a lifelong passion.
Family has always played a fundamental role in Mr. Joiner’s life. He grew up surrounded by four siblings,
lots of love, and strong values. The first ten years of Mr. Joiner’s life were spent in South Carolina before
his family moved to Florida. Mr. Joiner still thinks about the mountains he grew up in, but wouldn’t
trade Stuart Florida for any place in the world. As of October 20, 2018, Mr. Joiner has been happily
married to his lovely wife Laura Joiner. They share a modest dwelling in rural Arundel, Stuart. Mr. Joiner
and his wife enjoy long walks at Halpatiokee park and quality time spent with their close friends and
relatives. They also have a taste for Thai food, playing music, singing karaoke, visiting parks, and
traveling to visit family in South Carolina.
Upper School:
I grew up in a church in Tennessee that had a great music program. I started singing in choirs at the age of 3 and continued through high school. I took piano lessons and organ lessons and played the
trumpet in middle school and high school. I was also in a rock band in high school. I enjoy listening to and performing all types of music.
I have music degrees from Westminster Choir College, University of Cincinnati, and Indiana University. I have
taught music for 34 years at the middle school, high school and university levels. I enjoy singing, playing the piano and
conducting choirs. I also truly enjoy sharing my love of music with students. I am delighted to be at Treasure Coast
Classical Academy and look forward to a wonderful year!
